Opal Phillips-Brown, CPCI
in-person and telehealth therapy
Ages:
- Children (5+)
- Adolescents (13-17)
- Adults (18+)
About:
Opal integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Existentialism Therapy into her clinical practice, believing that both approaches authentically capture the complexities of the human experience. ACT, which emphasizes mindfulness, values, and committed action, and Existentialism Therapy, which delves into themes of meaning, choice, and personal responsibility, enable her to address a wide spectrum of emotions and challenges clients face. She finds that both therapies foster a deeper understanding of oneself and one’s place in the world, empowering individuals to navigate difficult emotions, existential questions, and life transitions with compassion.
As an artist, Opal is passionate about incorporating creative arts into her therapeutic work. With the growing field of arts in medicine, she believes that creative expression—through mediums like sculpture, painting, drawing, and coloring—offers unique and healing ways to address both physical and mental health concerns.
Education:
Opal earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Sculpture and a Minor in Psychology from Wichita State University, and went on to complete her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
Experience:
Opal’s experience spans working with children, adolescents, and young adults, but she is open and eager to extend her practice to individuals of all ages. She recognizes that mental health challenges are not limited to any one stage of life and believes that each person, regardless of age, can benefit from the therapeutic process.
In every session, Opal strives to create a safe, nonjudgmental, and welcoming environment. She brings qualities of empathy, genuineness, compassion, and patience to her practice, ensuring that clients feel heard and understood. Her approach includes attentive listening and a deep respect for each individual’s unique perspective and journey. She is particularly committed to supporting marginalized communities, including the LGBTQ+ community and individuals with disabilities, ensuring they receive the care and validation they deserve. By fostering a therapeutic space that honors all identities and experiences, Opal is dedicated to helping individuals feel safe in expressing their authentic selves and working toward healing and growth.
