About:
Lisa G. Walker is a Clinical Professional Counselor who specializes in Marital, Couples, and Family Counseling Therapy. Lisa has experience working with adolescents, parents, families, adults, and couples. She has worked as a licensed clinician in both military and community settings.
Lisa’s expertise extends to providing Intensive-In-Home services to at-risk youth in different environments, including homes, educational institutions, and communities. Before pursuing her graduate degree. She worked as a social worker for several years, providing valuable support to youth and families in the local area and across North Carolina.
Some of the therapeutic models that Lisa enjoys using with clients include Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Systems Therapy, and Emotional Focused Therapy.
Education:
Lisa obtained her Master of Science Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota in July 2014.
She also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology/Social Work from Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina, which she completed in the fall of 1991.
Additionally, Lisa was awarded the license of a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor in the state of North Carolina in January 2018.
Experience:
Lisa has received training in various therapeutic approaches, including Gottman Marital Therapy, Family Centered Treatment, and Emotional Focused Therapy. When working with a diverse population, she is able to genuinely provide sympathy and empathy while maintaining a strong therapeutic relationship.
Lisa also incorporates a faith perspective into counseling for clients who are comfortable with this type of therapy, seeing it as a valuable resource. Additionally, some clients have found benefit in Faith Based Counseling as they navigate life’s challenges and successes.
It is essential for clients to feel safe, respected, and understood when addressing their needs, and Lisa creates an environment of freedom and safety without judgment through her therapeutic approach.
